Lucky seven shortlisted for ALBAS

Seven students and apprentices from 抖阴直播 have been selected as finalists for this year鈥檚 Awards for Land-based and Aquaculture Skills (the ALBAS).
They are among 19 of Scotland鈥檚 top trainees and rural learners shortlisted for the awards, organised by Lantra Scotland.
The ALBAS play a vital role in promoting rural careers, celebrating the achievements of learners, and highlighting the importance to employers of investing in skills.
Categories cover agriculture, aquaculture, equine, environmental conservation, game and wildlife, horticulture, land-based engineering and trees and timber.
Finalist Charlotte Martin,听who completed an HND in Countryside Management听at 抖阴直播 Oatridge, said she was 鈥渟peechless鈥 when she heard she had been shortlisted as a finalist.
The 49-year-old from Lanark, who is now studying for a Wildlife and Conservation degree at the University of Edinburgh, said: 鈥淚 am totally overwhelmed. But I also know none of it would be possible without the support I鈥檝e had from my lecturer John MacGregor at 抖阴直播, my partner and an amazing bunch of people I鈥檝e come to know these past few years.鈥
Fellow finalist 20-year-old Martin Young, from Insch, Aberdeenshire, has been doing an IMI Extended Diploma in Land-based Technology at Sellars through 抖阴直播 Barony.
He said: 鈥淚t's hard to put into words how I feel about being shortlisted.
鈥淚'd like to say a massive 鈥榯hank you鈥 to my lecturer Doug Goldie for putting me forward. I felt being nominated was a big enough achievement, but reaching the finals feels surreal.鈥

- Logan Bainbridge, 17, from Tarbert in Argyll and Bute - National Certificate in Gamekeeping through 抖阴直播 Elmwood
- Rory Donaldson, 17, Comrie, Perthshire - National Certificate in Gamekeeping through 抖阴直播 Elmwood
- Craig Farmer, 24, East Kilbride - Extended Diploma in Land-based Technology at Bryson Tractors Ltd through 抖阴直播 Oatridge
- Daisy Wright,听36, Edinburgh - HNC in Landscape Management and Horticulture at Historic Environment Scotland through 抖阴直播 Oatridge
- William Yuille, 17, Hollybush in Ayr - Modern Apprenticeship in Agriculture at South Corton Farm through 抖阴直播 Barony
Diane Smith, Schools Training and Work-Based Learning Officer at 抖阴直播, said: 鈥淲ell done to all our finalists. Reaching the finals is a huge achievement and whatever the outcome, they have already made a significant impact within their chosen industry and a fantastic start to their land-based career.鈥
Former 抖阴直播 student, farmer and stand-up comedian Jim Smith will host the gala dinner and awards ceremony on Thursday 3听March at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Dunblane Hydro.
